A rural retreat near Ripon, North Yorkshire ideal for a couple looking for a luxury bolthole

Feathered Nest is a North Yorkshire holiday cottage near Masham and Ripon bursting with charm. The area is beautiful and guests arrive along a tree-lined driveway. Self-contained and sitting within a gravelled courtyard, step into an enclosed entrance with plenty of space for storing boots, coats and bags after a day spent exploring the local area. The cottage sits at the edge of an immaculately kept farm, sheltered by a courtyard that keeps the agricultural bustle at bay.

Well-suited whether visiting for pleasure or business, the cottage offers guests a private space that you find in a hotel when attending work events or exhibitions at the nearby Harrogate Convention Centre.

With a stone-flagged floor and walls adorned with vintage decor, the handy entrance hall you arrive into is a welcome space in which to take off coats and muddy boots before stepping into this rural retreat.

The ground floor is an inviting space, open plan with the living room, kitchen and four-seater dining table well laid out. Relax with a holiday read on the corner armchair or spend a lazy afternoon in front of the 45-inch Smart TV. The two-seater sofa and well placed footstool invite you to while away your time in comfort.

The shaker-style kitchen is well-equipped with a microwave, dishwasher, oven and induction hob. Then having rustled up a delicious fare sourced from the weekly markets or local producers, retire to the dining table with space for four. For those not wanting to cook, West Tanfield's well-known pubs are a 5-minute drive away and The Nag's Head at Pickhill (a 10-15 minute drive) offers a great Chinese takeaway.

Guests will admire the craftsmanship of the bespoke oak and glass staircase, which leads upstairs to the first-floor bedroom. With lush carpets underfoot, the feathered theme of the cottage features on the stunning feature headboard which was custom-made for this cottage. The bed is super-king-size with crisp white cotton sheets. You will find a dressing table with a mirror and a built-in smart TV opposite the bed for long, lazy lie-ins.

The en-suite bathroom has a large walk-in rainfall shower and plenty of storage in the vanity unit. Soft under-counter lights are a fantastic feature if you’re the last one to bed and don’t want to wake up your partner. Fluffy towels and bathrobes are included.

A comfy rattan table and chairs sit outside the kitchen window for a morning coffee or an evening gin and tonic. Outside the cottage, the courtyard is a pleasant sun trap during summer months, with a wrought iron table and chairs, and a charcoal barbecue and parasol for hotter days.

This holiday cottage is well-located near Masham and West Tanfield. Make sure to bring your boots as there are plenty of great walks to explore or even venture a little further and make use of the two bikes available free of charge.

A locally sourced welcome hamper greets guests on arrival, with coffee, tea and some locally sourced goodies. Linen, fluffy towels and bathrobes are provided, as well as a selection of luxury travel-size toiletries. There is Wi-Fi throughout and all sockets are USB plug sockets.

The kitchen is well equipped and comes with an integrated fridge with ice-box, microwave, Bosch oven with grill, an induction hob and a dishwasher. A charcoal BBQ is available and guests should bring their own charcoal.

For families, please note that due to the size of this holiday cottage, only babes-in-arms are accommodated.

Outside the property is parking for 2 cars on the gravel courtyard, as well as plenty of storage space for bikes, boots, and other outdoor equipment.

Please get in touch to request the 2 bikes available to borrow for an easy ride into the neighbouring villages surrounding this North Yorkshire holiday cottage.

In The Area

A haven for walkers, cyclists or simply for couples seeking a quiet break, the rural location combines peaceful countryside seclusion and some popular North Yorkshire market towns within easy reach. This luxury holiday cottage near Masham, is a wonderful place to explore from. The nearby village of West Tanfield is a popular spot, with lovely walks along the River Ure or around Nosterfield Nature Reserve. There is an excellent choice of pubs for food and drink, and a well-stocked village shop here too.

Masham is the closest town, and in our opinion no trip is complete without a tour of the popular Black Sheep Brewery! Stroll around the farmers’ market on Sunday’s (open from April to October), go riding across the beautiful Dales with Masham Riding School, or relax and indulge at Swinton’s country club and spa. Bedale, Ripon and Thirsk are also a short drive away, and offer a wide choice of places to eat and drink, plenty of shops and galleries to explore.
