Only 1km from Richmond town centre you will find the pretty Yorkshire village of Hudswell, which is home to our cosy two bedroom holiday cottage Woodcroft Cottage and is also a great day trip for any guests staying with us in Richmond at Darcy Mews, 30 Frenchgate or Brompton Lakes.
From Richmond, follow the picturesque trail riverside along the River Swale through Hudswell Woods, where you can picnic by the river whilst watching the river flow by or in October simply appreciate the woods rich mosaic of autumn colour. Nobody needs to get left behind either as there are many dog friendly pubs and walks in the area.
Head up the 230 Hudswell Steps (make sure you keep a count) to arrive at Hudswell village where you can take a well deserved break at The George and Dragon, an award winning traditional Dales pub, offering a warm Yorkshire welcome and a range of local ales and home cooked food made from local produce. The pub has acres of gardens to the rear with gorgeous views over the Swale valley and further.
For a longer scenic stroll, why not head to the pretty village of Downholme, a delightful secluded spot surrounded by wooded hillside. The Bolton Arms has a fully stocked bar of local ales and behind the village inn, stands the ruins of Downholme Hall and you can also spot a small waterfall which runs north through the village to join the nearby River Swale.
