A family day out in Yorkshire

In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales near to Skipton, the Bolton Abbey Estate offers plenty for all ages during a stay at one of our three gorgeous holiday cottages. The River Warfe winds through the valley, owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, with a choice of places to eat, drink play and walk.

At the beautiful 12th-century Bolton Abbey, wander through the ancient ruins on the beautiful banks of the River Wharfe. Wander along over 80 miles of footpaths on the estate, winding between the varied restaurants, tea rooms, picnic spots, and even an antique bookshop. Take a look at a few of our favourite walks and trails around the estate here.

Relax and unwind at The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa a few minutes’ drive from our Bolton Abbey Boltholes to indulge in spa access and some of Yorkshire’s finest food and drink. We enjoyed Brownie Barn next door to Warfe View Cottage for a casual breakfast, and in Winter try the wonderful Polar Express train from Embsay.

What's On at Bolton Abbey Estate...

All hands on deck...

The kids will love this pop-up beach with pirate ship , nestled on the bank of the River Wharfe, outside the Cavendish Pavilion.

Once on deck little pirates can enjoy the ship’s slide, climbing net, climbing wall, pirates’ pole and ship’s wheel…

Don’t forget your bucket and spade for building sandcastles galore this Summer in Yorkshire!

Welly Walks...

Embrace the great outdoors with this muddy adventure. Your little ones will love being challenged with lots of fun obstacles along the way. Starting at the stepping stones to the Cavendish Pavillion cafe, along riverside footpaths.

Watch the kids put their balance skills to the test, scramble up nets, navigate the pole-to-pole and get muddy as they come down the slides! A fun day out in Yorkshire for all the family, whatever the weather.
