The heating throughout the house is operated by a thermostat, located by the front door. This is set before your arrival so hopefully you will only need to alter the individual thermostats attached to the radiator in each room around the house.
Please be aware that setting the temperature thermostat higher will not make the room heat up more quickly, the program timer may just need adjusting.
Should you need help adjusting the thermostats or programmer, or need help generally with the heating during your stay please contact the office between 8.30am and 5pm on 01748 850333.
Sitting Room Fire
The fire in the sitting room is electric. Open the front door and use the right-hand red power button to turn on. The left-hand buttons operate the heat settings and the light. Please do not put anything directly in front of the vent at the bottom of the fire.
The fireplace in the dining room is decorative.
Oven, Hob & Extractor Fan
The oven is very simple to use, with the left hand knob controlling the temperature and the right hand knob offering the programme. The hob has four separate rings which are clearly marked.
The extractor fan is switched on using the fan setting and the wooden front needs to be pulled out to the front for it to be operational. There is a light in here above the hob.
Please note the red wall switches between the hob and the oven need to be on for these to be operational.
Washing Machine
Located in the far cupboard to the right of the kitchen sink. The programs are clearly labelled on the front of the machine, as are the spin and temperature settings.
There is washing powder for the machine in the cupboard under the sink.
The drying rack is located in the cupboard under the stairs, by the front door.
Dishwasher
This is located to the right of the sink. Open the door and turn on using the left hand power button. Select the required program using the P button on the right, then press play to start.
There are a number of dishwasher tablets under the sink.
Although regularly checked, if the S symbol is lit in red to the left of the programmes then more dishwasher salt is required, and the circle located below that would show more rinse aid is required.
The sitting room television is turned on using the Samsung remote. The second remote control operates the Freeview box. Ensure the TV is set to Ext as the source, which is selected using the top right Source button. The Freeview box can occasionally take up to 30 seconds on occasion to power up.
The bedroom televisions are Smart TVs, and channels are found using the guide button. The TV in bedroom 2 is smart function only as there is no aerial connection.
The bins can be found at the side of the cottage (outside the kitchen door). Please do not leave rubbish bags outside where animals may be tempted.
Plastic boxes are provided for mixed recycling. We recycle glass, paper, cans and recyclable plastics and cartons (check on the pack). Please use the boxes accordingly, and help by making sure bottles, cans and containers are clean before putting them into the box.
If you require your bin emptying during your stay please call our Reception on 01748 850333.
There is a fire blanket and extinguisher located in the kitchen, along with a first aid kit for any minor injuries.
In the unlikely event of a fire, please think of your own safety first. Evacuate people as necessary before attempting to extinguish any minor outbreaks. If you are asked to evacuate for any reason, assemble outside on the pavement. If the fire is too large, call the emergency services on 999 giving the address:
34 Maison Dieu, Richmond, DL10 7AU

There are three doors on the ground floor by which to evacuate the property. The keys should be kept nearby to allow swift evacuation in the case of an emergency. When going to bed shut all the doors.
On the first floor the windows have safety features that allow exit should you have reason to do so in the event of an emergency.
When safe, please contact 01748 850333 (office hours) or the out-of-hours emergency number: 07919 451626
Richmond is a wonderful dog-friendly area, and from Maison Cottage there are many walks on your doorstep. Our favourites head towards the River Swale and along to Easby Abbey along the river banks to the east of Richmond. You can also head west along the river and try part of the coast-to-coast route into the Dales.

There is a gas BBQ found outside on the patio which you are welcome to use. We appreciate you leaving the BBQ clean and replacing the cover after using it. The tongs are stored in the garden shed.
The brazier is a lovely fire for cooler evenings on the patio. It uses briquettes, which are stored in the garden shed. These can be bought from Brooke’s Garage, Yorkshire Trading and Lidl in Richmond.
Please be aware that this gets extremely hot when lit and should be lit on the patio rather than the grass. Never leave it burning unattended and ensure that it is extinguished safely. Please allow to cool completely before touching and do not move when in use. Keep away from flammable objects, children and pets.
Maison Cottage is Grade II listed, just one of its lovely features. This means that secondary glazing has been installed to reduce any noise from the front of the house. These can be swung open to then open the windows behind as required. If you have any questions please contact Reception on 01748 850333.
Parking is on Maison Dieu, the street outside the property. The parking along here is free of charge during your stay, and it is incredibly rare to not be able to find a space.
Parking in the market square in Richmond requires a parking disc which can be requested in any of the shops in the town if you should need one.
Unless alternative arrangements have been made, we kindly request that you vacate by 10am on the day of your departure to give us time to prepare the property to the same high standard for the next guests. A later departure may be possible by special arrangement with reception, only if no one is arriving that day.
Please return the keys to the key box. Make sure you have everything with you, and you have logged out of any accounts on the TV. Do let us know if there have been any problems we should be aware of.
If possible, please leave any feedback on the comments form for our team.
On departure, thank you for leaving damp towels in the shower rather than on the beds. We also appreciate you putting out the rubbish.
