Nestled in County Durham, Barnard Castle is a small bustling market town, with heritage sites, lovely views of River Tees, independent shops and plenty of dining options. Egglestone Abbey to Barnard Castle circular: The charming ruins of the small monastery of Premonstratensian ‘white canons’ is picturesquely set above a bend in the River Tees.
