The two-week journey passes through three National Parks and over a real cross-section of England’s best landscapes. It begins in the Lake District, taking in deep-sided valleys, lakeshores and remote mountain passes. Next is the limestone country of the Yorkshire Dales, with the old market town of Richmond marking the end of the Dales, before the path crosses the Vale of York and rises over the rolling moorland hills of the North York Moors.

With plenty of pleasing pit stops en-route, one of our favourites is The Joiners Shop, an award-winning coffee shop, and kitchen offering fresh baking, breakfast and brunch as well as an Afternoon Tea menu including specialty coffee from all over the world, loose-leaf specialty teas and a selection of sandwiches, homemade scones, cakes, and macaroons.

The beautiful moorland walk winds its way from Barningham Village to the south-east of the village where you will be on the County Durham and North Yorkshire boundary. The mostly flat and track-based walking route will lead you to The Stang Forest where the views are simply breathtaking. After a short walk up the steepest part of the route, you will find yourself at Eel Hill which is the highest point of the route. Once again you will experience panoramic views looking over into County Durham.  

You will loop down back into the Barningham Village where there are both the Milbank Arms pub and also Coghlans tea rooms, where you can refuel before your journey home.
